Montgomery Industry Partners (MIP) is a stand-alone informal association of both Montgomery area industry partners as well as the Maxwell AFB and Gunter Annex community.  We are not affiliated with any other organizations.

NEXT MIP meeting: 8 July 2016 0615, Building 500 Interstate Park, Room 507

No meeting on 1 July (Independence Day Weekend)

Lee Terrell (TSCTI), Arnie Regan, John O’Connor (Windmill)

The MIP notes are intended for local Montgomery area Industry and Government Partners.  Recipients may choose to forward.  Any email lists associated with MIP should not be forwarded or shared outside of MIP

    FROM the Editor:

If you have an item that should be included in the notes, please email that to MIPDistro@gmail.com NLT than 5 PM the day before a MIP meeting.  This will insure accuracy when being posted to the notes.

CHANGING EMAIL ADDRESS?  Send an email to MIPDistro@gmail.com with the old and new addresses.  It will be updated within a few days.

RESUMES:  If you want to pass along a resume for distribution, you can also send that directly to MIPDistro@gmail.com. As we mentioned a few months ago, if the resume is for someone you are trying to help, suggest you do a little “peer review/QC” before forwarding on.  Some of the resumes of late that have been received could have used some help.  (Actually, some could have used a LOT of help!)

    Thank you!

See You Next Friday 8 July!

    Format Notes:

    • ·       The date at the end of the content indicates when the item was last updated.
    • ·       From the AFA Daily Digest
    • ·       The Best Ideas Aren’t Free.  The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center is seeking ideas on how to improve efficiency, and the best will receive a financial reward. Until July 16, service members and civilians, as individuals or teams, can submit their ideas on how to eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy and improve effectiveness, according to an AFLCMC release. As of Friday, more than 40 submissions from seven different bases had already been received since the competition opened in May. Once the submission period ends, a panel will select the best ideas, and their submitters will then be asked to pitch their ideas to the panel. The winning individual or team's unit will receive a $5,000 operation and maintenance reward. But the winner, not the unit leadership, will decide how to spend the prize money. Non-winning ideas will still be considered for implementation by the AFLCMC leadership, according to the release.  (27 June 2016)
    • o   Old Timers…  Sounds something like the “Form 1000” program of yesteryear, except the individual got a cash reward

    • ·       IT Buzz Word “de Jour.” (From Federal Computer World Magazine, June Insert.)  "What agencies need to know about HCI”  Hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI)  "HIC is a concept that’s still evolving from marketing buzz-word to term of art, so here isn’t yet a canonical definition.  Essentially, it’s a mix of standard servers and clever software that meshes number of largely identical nodes into a unified pool of computing storage resources.  HCI’s inherent scalability facilitates starting small and rapidly growing, making it a low-risk alternative to traditional large, monolithic systems and obviating the need for lengthy, error-prone three to five year planning exercises.” (1 July 2016)
