The MIP notes are intended for local Montgomery Area Industry and Government Partners.  Recipients may choose to forward.  Any email lists associated with MIP should not be forwarded or shared outside of MIP.

Format Notes:  The date at the end of the content indicates when the item was last updated.

Your MIP Editor will be out on “Injured Reserve” from 28 June through 2 August.  Will need volunteers to present the notes at the MIP meetings and send an update of new business back to me.  I will still be able to edit and distribute.  Send an email to sactrndklr@gmail.com if you can help, even if only for 1 meeting.

We have volunteers through July 12.  But still need some help after that.

    Thanks. (John O’Connor)

    • ·         AFA Daily Report
    • ·         Esper to be Nominated for SECDEF.  The White House on June 21 announced the intent to officially nominate Army Secretary Mark Esper to be the next Defense Secretary, hours after former acting Defense Secretary and expected nominee Patrick Shanahan was ceremoniously walked out of the building. The White House also announced President Donald Trump will nominate David Norquist, currently performing the role of the deputy defense secretary, to take that role permanently.  (24 June 2019)
    • ·         Raytheon to Conduct Cyber Assessments on USAF Aircraft Systems.  Raytheon and the Air Force are working on a type of “bug bounty” focused on addressing cyber deficiencies, but this time on aircraft.  The company is contracted to conduct cyber vulnerability assessments on several aircraft subsystems and then work to mitigate the issues through resiliency instead of simply aiming to be impervious to attacks, said Dave Wajsgras, Raytheon’s president of Intelligence, Information, and Services.  The company will begin working on the C-130J and F-15 in the fourth quarter of this year.  “The Air Force is taking the threat quite seriously,” Wajsgras said.  The threat assessment process will look at how vulnerable aircraft systems, such as the mission computers, avionics, and navigation, are to attack.  The objective is to strengthen those systems enough so that if one comes under a cyber attack, it doesn’t simply go offline, leaving the aircrew without that capability.  “Resiliency says that even if something were to breach, and malware does enter, the system is resilient and can continue to function as intended,” he said.  (24 June 2019)

    • ·         Help Wanted!  This event needs help from the MIP membership.  We will need a POC to gather questions and prepare “read-aheads” for candidates.  Also we need someone to coordinate the invitations and work with the candidates to prepare for the forum.  A moderator is also needed to manage the discussion.  Plan on discussing in detail as a main agenda item for next week’s MIP Meeting.  (21 June 2019)
